Windows alternatives…

How many of you will switch over to a new Operating System if it was free and could do ‘almost’ everything Windows can do? If your answer is ‘Yes’, this post is for you.

gOS:

This is not Google OS. But the screenshots may suggest it. gOS is a light weight Linux, marketed by  ‘Good OS LLC’, a Los Angeles-based corporation. Some of the screenshots are :

This OS is absolutely free. You can download it from their download page. The installation is completely hassle free unlike other Linux versions. Many of the features of gOS is much like Apple’s Macintosh. the iBar is very similar to the dock in Mac. The iBar also has stacks just the like the new stacks in Leopard. All the Google apps comes right in-built into the OS. It has all the necesaary features for a normal home user including a media player, Xine.

Overall, gOS looks good and from the reviews it certainly runs faster than Windows. The only concern can be the hardware support. I am not sure if all the hardware have the necessary drivers for Linux. So have an eye on that before you jump into gOS.

Zonbu:

Zonbu has a striking similarity to Windows.

It boasts to be the first ‘Hybrid OS’. What it means? ‘With Zonbu your entire desktop — data, applications, preferences and settings — is always available from any PC. Complete location and hardware independence.’ So all your applications and data are stored online. No worry of data corruption, virus or malware. The OS is completely free with the applications. You dont even have to pay for the updates. This is also a Linux based OS. So go ahead, poke around.
